This document specifies guidelines for wastewater treatment and reuse in thermal power plants, including the types and characteristics of wastewater and the technologies of wastewater treatment and reuse. In this document, thermal power plant drainage systems are divided into fuel supply, chemical water treatment, boiler and auxiliary, recirculating cooling, flue gas processing, gasification scrubber and ash handling. Wastewater from these systems is classified in accordance with its system sources. In addition, technical guidelines for wastewater treatment and reuse are provided according to the water requirements of systems in the thermal power plant. This document is formulated to provide feasible technical guidance for the treatment and reuse of wastewater in thermal power plants. It is applicable to coal-fired, oil-fired, gas-fired (including gas turbine), biomass-fired, waste incineration and integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) thermal power plants.

This document focuses on monitoring the activity concentrations of radioactive gases. They allow the calculation of the activity releases, in the gaseous effluent discharge from facilities producing positron emitting radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals. Such facilities produce short-lived radionuclides used for medical purposes or research and can release gases typically including, but not limited to 18F, 11C, 15O and 13N. These facilities include accelerators, radiopharmacies, hospitals and universities. This document provides performance‑based criteria for the design and use of air monitoring equipment including probes, transport lines, sample monitoring instruments, and gas flow measuring methods. This document also provides information on monitoring program objectives, quality assurance, development of air monitoring control action levels, system optimisation and system performance verification.
The goal of achieving an unbiased measurement is accomplished either by direct (in-line) measurement on the exhaust stream or with samples extracted from the exhaust stream (bypass), provided that the radioactive gases are well mixed in the airstream. This document sets forth performance criteria and recommendations to assist in obtaining valid measurements.
NOTE 1 The criteria and recommendations of this document are aimed at monitoring which is conducted for regulatory compliance and system control. If existing air monitoring systems were not designed according to the performance criteria and recommendations of this document, an evaluation of the performance of the system is advised. If deficiencies are discovered based on a performance evaluation, a determination of the need for a system retrofit is to be made and corrective actions adopted where practicable.
NOTE 2 The criteria and recommendations of this document apply under both normal and off‑normal operating conditions, provided that these conditions do not include production of aerosols or vapours. If the normal and/or off-normal conditions produce aerosols and vapours, then the aerosol collection principles of ISO 2889 also apply.

This document provides guidelines for cost analysis of the use of reclaimed water in industrial cooling systems. This document is intended for new-built industrial cooling systems using reclaimed water as make-up water, in which the reclaimed water originates from industrial wastewater and is generated through wastewater treatment systems for reuse. The source of industrial wastewater is from all the production plants inside the enterprise. In this document, the levelized cost of cooling water (LCOCW) is used to compare and determine which industrial cooling system is more expensive per-kilowatt-hour heat removed. Use of reclaimed water will have a direct impact on the operating cost of cooling systems and the environment. External benefits, including positive externalities and negative externalities, are provided in Annex A, which considers environmental, social and financial elements. This document is intended for all types of stakeholders involved in reclaimed water use in new-built industrial cooling systems. This document aims to ensure consistency within any organization engaged in reclaimed water reuse. This document provides a broad framework within which costs for new-built industrial cooling systems using reclaimed water can be assessed. The currency used is local currency (LCY).

New findings in the field of swimming pool water and bath water hygiene as well as technical development of the corresponding treatment processes necessitated a revision of the standard series DIN 19643. As a result the standards - DIN 19643-1 "Treatment of water of swimming pools and baths - Part 1: General requirements"; - DIN 19643-2 "Treatment of water of swimming pools and baths - Part 2: Combinations of process with fixed bed filters and precoat filters"; - DIN 19643-3 ("Treatment of water of swimming pools and baths - Part 3: Combinations of process with ozonization"); - DIN 19643-4 "Treatment of water of swimming pools and baths - Part 4: Combinations of process with ultrafiltration" which have been prepared by Working Committee NA 119-04-13 AA "Schwimmbeckenwasser" ("Pool water") at the Water Practice Standards Committee (NAW) are now available. Part 1 applies for the treatment of water, including sea water, mineral water, medicinal water, brine (including artificial brine) and thermal water in swimming pools and bathing facilities. It does not apply for the treatment of water in family pools and water in facilities with biologically treated water. The aim of this document is to ensure good, consistent quality of pool water with regard to hygiene, safety and aesthetics so there are no concerns regarding damage to human health, especially by pathogens. In this respect the well-being of bathers (for example, by minimizing secondary reaction products of disinfection) shall also be considered. For this purpose, water quality, dimensioning, operating and control requirements are specified. Treatment requirements to achieve this aim are stated.

This Part of this European Standard applies to all shell boilers as defined in EN 12953-1 which are heated by combustion of one or more fuels or by hot gases for the generation of steam and/or hot water.
This Part of this European Standard applies to those components between the feedwater inlet and the steam outlet of the steam generator. The quality of the steam produced is outside the scope of this standard.
This Part of this European Standard aims to ensure that the boiler is able to be operated to minimize risk to personnel, the boiler and associated plant components located near it.
NOTE 1   This part of this European Standard does not aim to achieve optimum economic operation. For certain purposes, it will be more appropriate to optimize the chemical characteristics in order to:
   increase the thermal efficiency;
   increase the availability and reliability of the plant;
   increase the steam purity;
   reduce the maintenance costs – repair, chemical cleaning, etc.
This Part of this European Standard sets out minimum requirements for the specific types of water to reduce the risk of corrosion, sludge precipitation or formation of deposits which may lead to any damage or other operating problems.
NOTE 2   This Part of this European Standard has been prepared on the assumption that the user of this European Standard possesses a sufficient knowledge of the construction and operation of the boiler as well as an adequate appreciation of water and steam chemistry.
