This document specifies the requirements and associated test methods applicable to wide tolerance ductile iron and steel couplings, stepped/reducing couplings and flange adaptors intended for use with pipe components made from a number of pipe materials (ductile iron, grey iron, PE in conformity with EN 12201-1 to EN 12201-5, PVC-U in conformity with EN ISO 1452-1 to EN ISO 1452-5, steel, fibre-cement), for providing a leak tight seal over a wide range of pipe outside diameters:
-   to convey water (e.g. water intended for human consumption );
-   with or without pressure;
-   to be installed below or above ground, inside or outside buildings.
This document is not intended to cover sewerage or gas applications, where additional requirements may be necessary.
This document specifies requirements for materials, dimensions and tolerances, mechanical properties and standard coatings of products.
This document covers wide tolerance couplings, stepped/reducing couplings and flange adaptors:
-   Manufactured with socketed or flanged ends;
-   Supplied externally and internally coated;
-   Suitable for ductile iron in conformity with EN 545, grey iron, PE in conformity with EN 12201-1 to EN 12201-5, PVC-U in conformity with EN ISO 1452-1 to EN ISO 1452-5, steel, fibre-cement in a size range extending from DN 40 to DN 700, for an allowable operating pressure (PFA) up to 16 bar, for fluid temperatures between 0 °C and 25 °C excluding frost. For higher temperatures, (up to 45 °C for PVC-U or 40 °C for PE) the PFA is derated as given in EN ISO 1452 and EN 12201;
-   Not intended for use in areas subjected to reaction to fire regulations.
NOTE 1   This does not preclude special arrangements for the products to be used at higher temperatures. Temperature limitations and pressure limitations are those coming from the PVC-U or PE pipes.
This document covers ductile iron couplings, stepped/reducing couplings and flange adaptors cast by any type of foundry process or manufactured by fabrication of cast components, as well as corresponding joints, in a size range extending from DN 40 to DN 700, to be used with pipes of external diameter from 40 mm to 710 mm.
As long as no equivalent European Standard exists for steel accessories, this document also covers couplings and flange adaptors which are fabricated partly or entirely from steel as well as corresponding joints, in a size range extending from DN 60 to DN 700, to be used with pipes of external diameter from 63 mm to 710 mm.
This document specifies requirements for materials, dimensions and tolerances, mechanical properties and standard coatings. It also gives minimum performance requirements for all components, including restrained and non-restrained flexible joints. Joint design and gasket shapes are outside the scope of this document.
NOTE 2   PFA can be limited depending on pipe materials effectively connected.
NOTE 3   In this document, if not specified, all pressures are relative gauge pressures, expressed in bars (100 kPa = 1 bar).

This European Standard specifies requirements for design, calculation and installation of factory made thermal insulated bonded single and twin pipe systems for directly buried hot water networks for continuous operation with treated hot water at various temperatures up to 120 ºC and occasionally with peak temperatures up to 140 ºC and maximum internal pressure 2,5 MPa. Flexible pipe systems according to EN 15632 are not under the scope of this standard.
The standard EN 13941, Design and installation of thermal insulated bonded single and twin pipe systems for directly buried hot water networks consists of two parts:
a)   prEN 13941-1: Design;
b)   prEN 13941-2: Installation.
The requirements and stipulations in this part: EN 13941-1, form an unbreakable unity with those of prEN 13941-2. This part shall therefore exclusively be used in combination with prEN 13941-2.
The principles of the standard may be applied to thermal insulated pipe systems with pressures higher than 2,5 MPa, provided that special attention is paid to the effects of pressure.
Adjacent pipes, not buried, but belonging to the network (e. g. pipes in ducts, valve chambers, road crossings above ground etc.) may be designed and installed according to this standard.
This standard presupposes the use of treated water, which by softening, demineralisation, de-aeration, adding of chemicals, or otherwise has been treated to effectively prevent internal corrosion and deposits in the pipes.
NOTE   For further information on water qualities to be used in district heating pipe systems see also [1].
This standard is not applicable for such units as:
a)   pumps;
b)   heat exchangers;
c)   boilers, tanks;
d)   systems behind domestic substations.

This document provides details about the aggressiveness factors, evaluation indicators of raw water, or inlet water of ductile iron pipe system and relevant lining information applicable to ductile iron pipes, fittings and accessories used in water mains and distribution system. This document is intended to serve as a tool for estimating the properties of certain water and their effect on internal linings of ductile iron pipes, fittings and accessories used in water mains and distribution system which are specified in ISO 2531, ISO 16631 and can be used to decide the most appropriate protective measures to ensure long term durability of pipeline. It is not always possible to definitively determine the aggressive parameters of certain water, and fully considered by limited test and evaluation. Therefore, the history information of the evaluated water, experiences of local water works can be taken for reference. The aggressiveness evaluation of water can be carried out before determining the internal lining materials of certain pipeline, and the evaluation and relevant tests can be done by qualified laboratories and engineers. Water that leads to high-level scaling in the pipeline is believed aggressive. Drainage and waste water are not in the scope of this document, the internal protection of drainage and waste water can be recommended by pipe suppliers.

This document specifies a computation method used to determine the length of the ductile iron pipes to be restrained, when used for conveying raw water, drinking water, sewerage under pressure. This computation method takes into account all common pipeline route changes, including changes in the diameter of the pipeline itself and dead ends at the extremity of the pipeline, the outside diameter of the pipe, the system test pressure (to estimate the thrust), depth of cover, the characteristics of the soil surrounding the pipe and trench backfilling methods for a worldwide usage. The characteristics of the restrained joint are not covered by this document but can also be considered to determine the restraining length using any appropriate method. The computation method defined in this document is applicable to all types of restrained joint systems, with their operating pressure ratings of ductile iron pipelines complying with ISO 2531, ISO 7186 and ISO 16631. NOTE 1 ISO 10804 deals with actual design of the joint for various operating pressures of the pipeline. NOTE 2 National standards or established calculation methods can be used instead of this ISO standard.
