This document specifies safety requirements and/or protective measures applicable to EDM equipment
and EDM systems intended to be adopted by persons undertaking their design, construction, installation
and/or supply, such as:
— manually controlled EDM die sinking or EDM drilling machines;
— numerically controlled EDM die sinking or EDM drilling machines; and
— numerically controlled EDM wire cutting machines.
This document also includes information to be provided by the manufacturer to the user.
This document is not applicable to arc eroding and electro-chemical machining equipment.
This document takes account of the precondition of the intended use as well as the reasonably
foreseeable misuse, in normal workshop environments and non-explosive atmospheres, including
transportation, installation, setting, maintenance, repair and dismantling for removal or disposal of
EDM equipment and EDM systems.
This document is also applicable to auxiliary devices essential for EDM processing.
This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events relevant
to EDM equipment and EDM systems, where they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse
which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Clause 4).
This document is intended to apply to machines manufactured after the date of publication of this
document.
When requirements of this type-C standard are different from those which are stated in type-A or -B
standards, the requirements of this type-C standard take precedence over the requirements of other
standards for machines that have been designed and built according to the requirements of this type-C
standard.
This document defines required performance level and safety categories of the safety-related parts of
the control system for EDM equipment and EDM systems as defined in ISO 13849-1:2015.

IEC 62841-3-13:2017 applies to transportable drills, with manually fed axial movement of the spindle, having a maximum chuck capacity of 13 mm. The rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single-phase a.c. or d.c. tools, and 480 V for three-phase a.c. tools. The rated input is not more than 3 700 W. The limits for the applicability of this standard for battery tools are given in K.1 and L.1. This standard deals with the hazards presented by tools which are encountered by all persons in the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of the tools. Hand-held electric tools, which can be mounted on a support or working stand for use as fixed tools without any alteration of the tool itself, are within the scope of this standard and such combination of a hand-held tool and a support is considered to be a transportable tool and thus covered by the relevant Part 3. Transportable drills are also known as bench drills or drill presses. This part of IEC 62841 does not apply to stationary drilling machines. This part of IEC 62841 does not apply to radial arm drills. This part of IEC 62841 does not apply to magnetic drill stands and drill motors. This Part 3-13 is to be used in conjunction with the first edition of IEC 62841-1:2014. The attention of National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip themselves for conducting new or revised tests. It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation nationally not earlier than 36 months from the date of publication Key words: Drills, Hand-held tool, Safety

ISO 11090-2:2014 specifies, with reference to ISO 230‑1 and ISO 230‑2, geometric and machining tests and tests for checking accuracy and repeatability of numerically controlled positioning axes for normal accuracy and general-purpose die sinking electro-discharge machines (die sinking EDM). It also specifies the applicable tolerances corresponding to the above-mentioned tests. ISO 11090-2:2014 is applicable to double-column machines of slide-head type. ISO 11090-2:2014 deals only with the verification of accuracy of the machine. It does not apply to the testing of the machine operation (vibrations, abnormal noises, stick-slip motion of components, etc.) or to the checking of its characteristics (such as speeds, feeds, etc.), which should generally be checked before the testing of the accuracy. ISO 11090-2:2014 provides the terminology used for the principal components of the machine and the designation of the axes with reference to ISO 841:2001. NOTE In addition to the terms used in the official ISO languages (English and French), Annex A of this part of ISO 11090 gives the equivalent terms in the Dutch, German, Italian, Swedish, Persian, and Japanese languages. These are published under the responsibility of the national member bodies for Netherlands (NEN), Germany (DIN), Italy (UNI), Sweden (SIS), Iran (ISIRI), and Japan (JISC). However, only the terms given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms.
