This document specifies design conditions and methods of calculation for air-conditioning and ventilation of accommodation spaces on board seagoing merchant ships for all conditions, except those encountered in extremely cold or hot climates (i.e. with lower or higher conditions than those stated in 4.2 and 4.3). This document also provides special considerations for machinery control-rooms, wheelhouse, and dry provision store rooms in Annexes C, D and E. NOTE Statutory requirements, rules and regulations can be applicable to the individual ships concerned.

ISO 3434:2012 specifies construction characteristics, optical qualities and heat current circuit, as well as the tolerances, tests, marking and designation of heated glass panes for ships' rectangular windows of the heated series according to ISO 3903. It includes the conditions to comply with the safety of ships in times of frost and/or snow, particularly during manoeuvres in port. Heated glass panes are used on ships principally for the windows of wheel-houses and bridges, as well as in enclosed locations used for look-out and manoeuvring purposes. ISO 3434:2012 specifies heated glass panes which are intended for use at temperatures down to -40 °C.

This European standard specifies the characteristics of safety, construction, performance and efficiency, the test methods and marking, of room sealed space heating equipment of type C (see CEN/TR 1749) with combustion air intake and outlet for the products of combustion in the wall, roof or floor, combined or not. These are referred to in the body of the text as "heaters", burning LPG, for vehicles and boats.
This European standard only covers room sealed heaters also including those which have a combustion air fan, an integral hot air fan or both, only for vehicles and boats which are used for residential, recreational and commercial purposes.
This European standard applies to heaters which are installed either outside or inside the habitable volume, but which have a combustion circuit sealed from the vehicle's interior, and nominal heat input which does not exceed 10 kW (Hs) operated at supply pressure of 30 mbar, 28 mbar, 37 mbar and 50 mbar, using, where appropriate, 12 V or 24 V DC electrical supply.
Room sealed LPG space heating appliances for vehicles and boats are using very often warm air as a heat transfer medium. Annex B specifies additional requirements for appliances using water as a heat transfer medium.
For private cars and vehicles or boats used for the transport of dangerous goods or for commercial personnel transport additional requirements may be necessary.
This European standard does not cover requirements for storage water heaters (boilers) (see EN 15033). For appliances producing additional sanitary hot water (combi-boilers), see relevant clauses of EN 15033.
NOTE   If a LPG operated heater is installed in a motorized vehicle being subject to European road traffic legislation, the directives of the Council for the approximation of the laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the member states relating to the heating of the interior of motor vehicles should be applied.
These heaters are also suitable for caravan holiday homes.

ISO 9943:2009 specifies the design requirements and general considerations for the ventilation and air-treatment of galleys and pantries with cooking appliances on board merchant seagoing ships, when such ventilation and air-treatment is specified by the shipowner. It applies for normal conditions in all waters except those encountered in extremely cold or hot climates. For the purposes of ISO 9943:2009, pantries with cooking appliances, referred to above, are those which contain appliances consuming more than the small amount of electrical power needed for coffee urns, hot-plates for keeping food warm, electric water boilers, etc. Users of ISO 9943:2009 should note that, while observing its requirements, they should at the same time ensure compliance with such statutory requirements, rules and regulations as may be applicable to the individual ship concerned.

This International Standard specifies methods of calculating the theoretical quantity of outdoor air required in cargo spaces of ships where vehicles with internal combustion engines are driven, in order to dilute the polluted air to within the permitted occupational exposure limits.
Annex A specifies average values of the amounts of pollutants in exhaust gases from vehicles with internal combustion engines driven in cargo spaces in ships.
Annex B gives general information and guidance as to good practice for the ventilation of cargo spaces in ships where vehicles with internal combustion engines may be driven.
Users of this International Standard should note that, while observing the requirements of the standard, they should at the same time ensure compliance with such statutory requirements, rules, and regulations as may be applicable to the individual ship concerned. Users should also refer to guidelines developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) contained in the Maritime Safety Committee Circular 729 (MSC Circ. 729), Guidelines and Recommendations for Ventilation systems in RO-RO Cargo Spaces.
