Dieser Europäische Norm-Entwurf enthält für die angegebene Charakteristik dieser Produkte jeweils Anforderungen, Bewertungsmethoden (z. B. Test, Berechnung oder Beschreibung) und Arten der Leistungserklärung.

Les produits couverts par le présent projet de Norme européenne sont destinés à être utilisés comme finitions accrochées sur les murs intérieurs et les cloisons au moyen d’une colle.
Pour les caractéristiques spécifiées de ces produits, le présent projet de Norme européenne fournit pour chaque produit les exigences, la (les) méthode(s) d’évaluation (à savoir essai, calcul ou description) et la (les) méthode(s) de déclaration des performances.
Elle spécifie également les méthodes d’évaluation et de vérification de la constance des performances des produits. En outre, pour les produits concernés, elle spécifie également le marquage.

1 Scope
This document specifies characteristics for thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels whose
purposes are decorative and protective, but non-structural.
The thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels are intended to be used as finishes for hanging
onto internal walls and wall partitions by means of adhesive. Their surface may be with or without
embossing.
It also specifies the procedures for the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP)
of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels.
This document does not cover thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels:
— fixed onto internal walls and wall partitions by other means than by adhesives, as well as the
adhesives and ancillary products themselves,
— intended to be used on ceilings.

4 Characteristics
4.1 Reaction to fire
NOTE The reaction to fire indicates the degree of contribution of the material of these panels to the
behaviour of the construction product in the event of fire.
The reaction to fire performance of a thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be
determined according to 5.1 for the claimed reaction to fire class, as specified in EN 13501-1:2018.
If so, the claimed class of the reaction to fire performance of a thermoplastics rigid protective
wallcovering panel shall be expressed together with the type of the applied substrate, as defined in

EN 13238:2010, Table 1, the 1 column (Nature).

When defining a product family of a particular type of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering
panel with regard to its reaction to fire performance, the panel’s parameters, influencing such
performance, as given in A.1, shall be taken into account.

4.2 Emission of dangerous substances into indoor air
4.2.1 General
Thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels shall be assessed concerning emission from them
of the following dangerous substances:
— volatile organic compounds (VOC), with exception of formaldehyde, as specified in 4.2.2, and
— formaldehyde, as specified in 4.2.3.
When assessing the emission of these dangerous substances from thermoplastics rigid protective
wallcovering panel, the parameters influencing such performance, as given in A.2, shall be taken into
account.
4.2.2 Emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) with exception of formaldehyde
Emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel
shall be determined in accordance with 5.2.

The performance shall be expressed as an indication of the value (in mg/m ) rounded to the nearest

4.2.3 Emission of formaldehyde
The emission of formaldehyde from the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be
determined in accordance with 5.3.
Depending on the result obtained, the performance of this characteristic shall be expressed as
formaldehyde emissions Classes E1 or E2, considering the respective criterion specified in Table 1.

4.3 Migration of heavy metals
4.3.1 The migration of heavy metals from the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel, as
listed in Table 2, shall be determined in accordance with 5.4.

The obtained corrected analytical value of migration, C, of any of the heavy metals from thermoplastics
rigid protective wallcovering panel, as listed in Table 2, except of antimony (Sb), shall not exceed the
related maximum migration value, specified also therein.
4.3.2 If so, the migration of heavy metals from the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel,
as listed in Table 2, shall be expressed, as:
a) for antimony (Sb), as indication of the achieved corrected analytical value, C, in mg/kg

4.4 Impact resistance
The impact resistance performance of thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels shall be
determined according to 5.5 and the value of the 50 % impact-failure energy (E ) reported.

The impact resistance performance of thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall have the
50 % impact-failure energy (E ) higher than 15 J and, if so, the performance of this characteristic shall
50
be expressed as indication “> 15 J”.
NOTE The threshold limit of 15 J is considered as protection from the risk of break of the thermoplastics rigid
protective wallcovering panel and of the wall itself, on which surface such panels are mounted.
4.5 Sound absorption
The sound absorption performance of a thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be
measured according to 5.6 and expressed as an indication of a value of the sound absorption coefficient,

4.6 Thermal resistance
The performance of thermal resistance, R, of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel
shall be determined either by calculation, in accordance with to 5.7 a), or by testing, with 5.7 b).
NOTE The calculation method is considered as the reference method.

The performance of this characteristic of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be

expressed as an indication of the 23 °C value of thermal resistance R, in m ·K/W.

The performance shall be expressed as an indication of the value (in m ·K/W) rounded to the nearest

upper 0,01 m ·K/W.

5 Testing, assessment and sampling methods
5.1 Reaction to fire
The reaction to fire performance of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be
determined in accordance with the test method(s), given in the standard(s), referred in
EN 13501-1:2018, for the claimed class of the reaction to fire performance.
The test specimens of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be tested, where
relevant, considering the substrate according to EN 13238:2010, Table 1.
5.2 Emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) with exception of formaldehyde
The emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering
panel shall be determined according to EN 16516:2017+A1:2020, GC-MS method.
5.3 Emission of formaldehyde
The emission of formaldehyde from thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be
determined according to either EN 16516:2017+A1:2020, HPLC method, or EN 717-1:2004.
NOTE Method according to EN 16516:2017+A1:2020 is considered as the referenced method.
5.4 Migration of heavy metals
For performance of migration of any of the heavy metals from thermoplastic rigid protective
wallcovering panel, as listed in Table 2, the following values (both in mg/kg), shall be determined:
a) an analytical value, A, obtained in the test performed in accordance with EN 12149:1997, Clause 4
(Test A), and
NOTE For the antimony, if the level cannot be determined because of the low detection capacity, the
analytical value, A, may be taken as zero.
b) a corrected value, C, calculated according the following equation, where B is analytical correction
factor from Table 3 for the corresponding heavy metal:
C = A – (A × B)/100
EXAMPLE Analytical result for barium (A) is 600 and corresponding analytical correction factor in Table 3
(B) is 30 %.
Corrected analytical value, C = 600 – (600 × 30)/100 = 600 – 180 = 420 mg/kg ≤ 500 mg/kg.
This is regarded as satisfying the respective maximum migration criterion, specified in
Table 2.

5.5 Impact resistance
The impact resistance performance of thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be
determined according to EN ISO 6603-1:2000, Method A, with the test conditions shall be as follow:
— striker diameter: (20 ± 0,2) mm;

— surface area of test specimens: (60 ± 2) mm ;
— number of specimens: at least 30 test specimens shall be used (10 test specimens for pretesting to
determine the starting energy);
— conditions for conditioning of test specimens and testing: (23 ± 2) °C and (50 ± 5) % RH.
The impact resistance performance shall be dealt with by the 50 % impact-failure energy (E ), the
50
energy that causes no more than half of the test specimens to fail, as defined hereafter.
Failure occurs, when a crack or a break appears on the test specimen (see examples given in Figure 2).
White discolorations are not considered as cracks.

5.6 Sound absorption
Performance of the sound absorption of thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be
measured in accordance with EN ISO 354:2003 and reported as the single value of the sound absorption
coefficient, α , according to EN ISO 11654:1997.

5.7 Thermal resistance
The performance of thermal resistance, R, of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel
shall be determined on one of the following ways:
a) by calculation, based by the following equation:

where n, is the total number of layers of the panel, each layer characterised by its:
i) thickness t (m), and

ii) thermal conductivity value, λ (in W/(m.K)), as tabulated values, taken from

EN ISO 10456:2007/AC:2009.
NOTE 1 The conversion quotations for the thermal values in EN ISO 10456:2007/AC:2009 may be used to
extrapolate the data to 23 °C.
b) by testing, in accordance with EN 12667:2001.
NOTE 2 The method according to 5.7 a) is considered as the reference method.
NOTE 3 A correlation with the results of the referenced method should be established.
6 Assessment and verification of constancy of performance - AVCP
6.1 General
The technical details necessary for the implementation of the system of assessment and verification of
constancy of performance comprise provisions with regards to:
— the assessment of the performance of the construction product, which may be carried out on the
basis of testing (including sampling), calculation, tabulated values or descriptive documentation of
the product; and
— the applicable factory production control.
6.2 Assessment of performance
6.2.1 General
When the intention is to declare any performance related to characteristics included in Annex ZA, this
shall be carried out on the basis of testing (including sampling), calculation, tabulated values or
descriptive documentation of the product, in accordance with Clauses 4 and 5.
Assessment previously performed in accordance with the provisions of this document, may be
considered, provided that this assessment was performed to the same or a more rigorous assessment
method, under the same AVCP system on the same product or products of similar design, construction
and functionality, such that the results are applicable to the product in question.
For the purposes of assessment, the products may be grouped into families, where it is considered that
the results for one or more characteristics from any one product within the family are representative
for that same characteristic for all products within that same family.
NOTE Products may be grouped into different families for different characteristics.
In addition, the determination of the product performance shall be
— carried out for all characteristics included in the standard for which it is intended to declare the
performance:
— on first application of this document, or
— at the beginning of the production of a new or modified thermoplastics rigid protective
wallcovering panel, unless a member of the same product family; or

— at the beginning of a new or modified method of production, where the modification may affect
the stated properties;
— repeated for the characteristic(s) in question, whenever a change occurs in the thermoplastics rigid
protective wallcovering panel design, in the raw material(s) or in the supplier of the components,
and/or in the method of production (subject to the definition of a family), which may affect
significantly the performance in relation to one or more of the characteristics.
Where kit components are used whose performance in relation to their characteristics has already been
determined on the basis of assessment methods of other harmonised technical specifications and those
components bear CE marking in accordance with those harmonised technical specifications, these
performances do not need to be re-assessed, if the intended use and the assessment methods of this
