Environmental aspects of ductile iron pipe systems for water and sewerage aspects applications

This Technical Report applies to all water and sewerage applications of ductile iron pipe systems and provides a structure on how to identify and consider environmental aspects and potential environmental impacts of ductile iron pipe systems throughout their life cycle. This Technical Report gives guidance on how the life cycle of ductile iron pipelines should be considered in accordance with EN ISO 14044. This Technical Report also includes health and safety aspects related to the production, use and recycling of ductile iron pipe systems.

Le présent Rapport technique concerne tous les réseaux d’eau et d’assainissement utilisant des systèmes de
canalisations en fonte ductile et propose une structure pour identifier et prendre en compte les aspects
environnementaux et les éventuels impacts environnementaux des systèmes de canalisations en fonte ductile
tout au long de leur cycle de vie.
Le présent Rapport technique fournit des lignes directrices sur la façon dont il convient de tenir compte du
cycle de vie des systèmes de canalisations en fonte ductile conformément à l’EN ISO 14044. Il inclut
également des aspects de santé et de sécurité liés à la production, à l’utilisation et au recyclage des systèmes
de canalisations en fonte ductile.

To tehnično poročilo se uporablja za vse načine uporabe cevnih sistemov iz duktilne litine za vodo in odpadno vodo ter zagotavlja strukturo, kako opredeliti in obravnavati okoljske vidike in morebitne okoljske vplive cevnih sistemov iz duktilne litine med življenjskim ciklom. To tehnično poročilo podaja smernice, kako naj bi se upošteval življenjski cikel cevi iz duktilne litine v skladu s standardom EN ISO 14044. To tehnično poročilo zajema tudi zdravstvene in varnostne vidike, povezane s proizvodnjo, uporabo in recikliranjem cevnih sistemov iz duktilne litine.

1 Scope
This Technical Report applies to all water and sewerage applications of ductile iron pipe systems and provides
a structure on how to identify and consider environmental aspects and potential environmental impacts of
ductile iron pipe systems throughout their life cycle.
This Technical Report gives guidance on how the life cycle of ductile iron pipelines should be considered in
accordance with EN ISO 14044. This Technical Report also includes health and safety aspects related to the
production, use and recycling of ductile iron pipe systems.

3 General guidance
3.1 Provisions dealing with the introduction of environmental aspects into European
Standards
European Standards concerning ductile iron pipe systems currently exist without any direct reference for the
user to environmental awareness and the possible environmental aspects and potential impacts. This does
not necessarily lead to pipe systems which are less environmentally friendly, because the user has other
incentives when considering environmental aspects, such as installation considerations, legal requirements
etc. However, the inclusion of environmental provisions encourages the consideration of environmental
aspects in cases where such incentives do not exist.
