Deals with the safety of electrically operated dishwashing machines for washing plates, dishes, glassware, cutlery and similar articles, with or without means of heating water or drying, not intended for household use. The rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral and 480 V for other appliances. Appliances within the scope of this standard are used in restaurants, canteens, hospitals, and commercial enterprises such as bakeries, butcheries, etc. Examples of appliances within the scope of this standard are conveyor dishwashers; batch dishwashers and brush machines.

This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following. This European Standard deals with the safety of electric dishwashers for household and similar purposes, that are intended for washing and rinsing dishes, cutlery and other utensils, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. Appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops and other premises for normal housekeeping purposes, are within the scope of this European Standard.
NOTE Z101 Examples of appliance for household environment are appliances for typical housekeeping functions used in the household environment that may also be used by non-expert users for typical housekeeping functions:
– in shops and other similar working environments;
– in farm houses;
– by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments;
– in bed and breakfast type environments.
NOTE Z102 Household environments include the dwelling and its associated buildings, the garden, etc. As far as is practicable, this European Standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in household and similar environments. However, in general, it does not take into account
– children playing with the appliance,
– the use of the appliance by very young children,
– the use of the appliance by young children without supervision,
– user maintenance by children, including the cleaning of the appliance.
It is recognised that very vulnerable people may have needs beyond the level addressed in this European Standard. This European Standard does not apply to
– commercial electric dishwashing machines (EN 60335-2-58),
– appliances intended for industrial purposes,
– appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).
NOTE Z103 Attention is drawn to the fact that
– for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary,
– in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities.

This European Standard deals with the safety of electrically operated conveyor dishwashing machines for washing plates, dishes, glassware, cutlery and similar articles (e.g. trays, food containers), with or without means for water heating or forced hot air drying, not intended for household use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase machines connected between one phase and neutral and 480 V for other machines. The spraying pressure shall not exceed 1 MPa. These machines are designed to be connected to hot and/or cold water supply. standard. This standard does not apply to - machines which are moveable, - gas heating appliances which are part of conveyor dishwashing machines, - machines intended for disinfection, - machines intended to be used on board of sea-going vessels and aircraft, - machines designed exclusively for industrial purposes, for example machines used in the food industry for cleaning receptacles that serve as packaging for final products (e.g. bottle-cleaning machines), and machines used in manufacturing processes, - separately driven transport devices not confined in the machine, - machines intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).

This document specifies hygiene requirements relating to the operation of commercial dishwashing machines (hereinafter referred to as dishwashing machines). It specifies requirements for hygienic results of the articles treated in the dishwashing machines. This includes also guidelines for their hygienic and proper operation and for care and maintenance of the machinery. Furthermore, methods for testing hygienic operation are defined.
Dishwashing machines are used in a professional environment for cleaning washware that is used in contact with food.
This document applies to dishwashing machines for cleaning washware that is used in contact with food, such as crockery, glassware, cutlery, reusable boxes and similar articles.
Dishwashing machines (see 3.3) are used in kitchens e.g. in restaurants, canteens and hospitals and in commercial enterprises such as bakeries, butcher's shops, etc.
This document does not apply to domestic dishwashing machines, washer disinfectors for the treatment of medical devices and machines for industrial use (e.g. machines for cleaning proofing trays, returnable bottles, equipment of other machines like mincer, slicer, cutter, dough dividers or kneader, mixers, stirrers and all other kind of machines from which parts could be cleaned by washing out of place (WOP)).
