Environmental labels and declarations - General principles (ISO 14020:2000)

This International Standard establishes guiding principles for the development and use of environmental labels and declarations. It is intended that other applicable standards in the ISO 14020 series be used in conjunction with this International Standard.
This International Standard is not intended for use as a specification for certification and registration purposes.
NOTE Other International Standards in the series are intended to be consistent with the principles set forth in this International Standard. Other standards currently in the ISO 14020 series are ISO 14021, ISO 14024 and ISO/TR 14025 (see Bibliography).

Umweltkennzeichnungen und -deklarationen - Allgemeine Grundsätze (ISO 14020:2000)

Diese Internationale Norm legt Leitsätze für die Ent-wicklung
und Anwendung von Umweltkennzeichnungen
und -deklarationen fest. Es ist vorgesehen, sonstige
anwendbare Normen der Reihe ISO 14020 jeweils in
Verbindung mit dieser Internationalen Norm anzuwenden.
Sind in anderen Internationalen Normen speziellere
Anforderungen als in ISO 14020 enthalten, so haben
diese spezielleren Anforderungen den Vorrang.
Diese Internationale Norm ist nicht zur Verwendung für
Zertifizierungs- und Registrierungsverfahren vorgesehen.
ANMERKUNG Es ist vorgesehen, dass weitere Internationale
Normen dieser Reihe den in dieser Internationalen Norm nieder-gelegten
Grundsätzen folgen. Gegenwärtig gehören zur Normen-reihe
ISO 14020 folgende weitere Normen: ISO 14021,
ISO 14024 und ISO/TR 14025 (siehe Literaturhinweise).

La présente Norme internationale établit les principes directeurs pour le développement et l'utilisation des étiquettes et déclarations environnementales. Il est prévu qu'elle soit utilisée conjointement avec d'autres normes applicables de la série ISO 14020.
La présente Norme internationale n'est pas destinée à être utilisée à des fins de certification ou d'enregistrement.
NOTE Il est prévu que les autres Normes internationales de la même série soient compatibles avec les principes établis dans la présente Norme internationale. Il s'agit des normes ISO 14021, ISO 14024 et ISO/TR 14025 (voir la bibliographie).

This European Standard was approved by CEN on 30 September 2001.
CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for giving this European
Standard the status of a national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national
standards may be obtained on application to the Management Centre or to any CEN member.
This European Standard exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation
under the responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Management Centre has the same status as the official
versions.

Foreword
The text of the International Standard from Technical Committee ISO/TC 207 "Environmental
management" of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has been taken over as an
European Standard by CMC.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2002, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by April 2002.
NOTE FROM CMC: The foreword is susceptible to be amended on reception of the German language
version. The confirmed or amended foreword, and when appropriate, the normative annex ZA for the
references to international publications with their relevant European publications will be circulated with
the German version.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the
following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic,
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands,
Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Endorsement notice
The text of the International Standard ISO 14020:2000 has been approved by CEN as a European
Standard without any modification.
