Page 5ETS 300 184: April 1993ForewordThis European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) has been produced by the Signalling Protocols &Switching (SPS) Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).In accordance with CCITT Recommendation I.130 [1], the following three level structure is used todescribe the supplementary telecommunications services as provided by European publictelecommunications operators under the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN):-Stage 1: is an overall service description, from the user's standpoint;-Stage 2: identifies the functional capabilities and information flows needed to support the servicedescribed in stage 1; and-Stage 3: defines the signalling system protocols and switching functions needed to implement theservice described in stage 1.This ETS details the stage 3 aspects (signalling system protocols and switching functions) to support theConference call, add-on (CONF) supplementary service. The stage 1 and stage 3 aspects are detailed inETS 300 183 (1992) and ETS 300 185 (1993), respectively.SIST ETS 300 184:1999

Page 7ETS 300 184: April 19931ScopeThis standard defines stage two of the Conference call, add-on (CONF) supplementary service for thepan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European publictelecommunications operators. Stage two identifies the functional capabilities and the information flowsneeded to support the service as described in stage one. The stage two description also identifies useroperations not directly associated with a call (see CCITT Recommendation I.130 [1]).This standard is specified according to the methodology specified in CCITT Recommendation Q.65 [2].This standard does not formally describe the relationship between this supplementary service and theBasic Call but where possible this information is included for guidance. In addition this standard does not specify the requirements where the service is provided to the user via aprivate ISDN. This standard does not specify the requirements for the allocation of defined functionalentities within a private ISDN; it does, however, specify which functional entities may be allocated to aprivate ISDN.This standard does not specify the additional requirements where the service is provided to the user via atelecommunications network that is not an ISDN.The CONF supplementary service provides a user with the ability to have a multi-connection call, i.e. asimultaneous communication between more than two parties. The CONF supplementary service is defined for all telecommunication services carrying speech. This standard is applicable to the stage three standards for the ISDN Conference call, add-on
(CONF)supplementary service. The term stage three is also defined in CCITT Recommendation I.130 [1]. Wherethe text indicates the status of a requirement, i.e. as strict command or prohibition, as authorisation leavingfreedom, as a capability or possibility, this shall be reflected in the text of the relevant stage threestandards.Furthermore, conformance to this standard is met by conforming to the stage three standards with the fieldof application appropriate to the equipment being implemented. Therefore, no method of testing is providedfor this standard.2Normative referencesThis standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. Thesenormative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listedhereafter. For dated references subsequent amendments to, or revisions of any of these publications applyto this standard only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the latestedition of the publication referred to applies.[1]CCITT Recommendation I.130 (1988): "Method for the characterisation oftelecommunication services supported by an ISDN and network capabilities of anISDN".[2]CCITT Recommendation Q.65 (1988): "Stage 2 of the method for thecharacterisation of services supported by an ISDN".[3]CCITT Recommendation I.112 (1988): "Vocabulary of terms for ISDNs".[4]CCITT Recommendation Q.71 (1988): "ISDN 64 kbit/s circuit mode switchedbearer services".[5]ETS 300 183 (1992): "Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN); Conferencecall, add-on (CONF) supplementary service; Service description".SIST ETS 300 184:1999

Page 9ETS 300 184: April 19935DescriptionThe CONF supplementary service can be invoked from the idle state. As a network option, the CONFsupplementary service can be invoked from an existing active call. When the CONF supplementary service is invoked, conference resources (e.g. a "bridge") are allocated tothe served user. In the case of invocation from an active call, this shall be automatically connected by thenetwork to the conference resources.Once a conference is active, parties may be added, dropped, isolated (i.e. prevented from communicatingwith the conference), reattached or split (i.e. removed from the conference but remain connected to theconference controller).6Derivation of a functional model6.1Functional model descriptionThe model has been based on the concept that the served user maintains by means of FE1 a singlerelation to the centre of the conference FE2. FE2 has the ability to have simultaneous relations with all theconferees. This concept has been depicted in figure 1.ÚÄÄÄÄÄ¿
