Jewellery - Determination of platinum in platinum jewellery alloys - ICP-OES method using yttrium as internal standard element (ISO 11494:2014)

ISO 11494:2014 describes a method for the determination of platinum in platinum jewellery alloys, preferably within the range of fineness specified in ISO 9202, by means of inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES).
This method applies to platinum jewellery alloys that might contain silver, indium, iridium, gallium, copper, cobalt, nickel, tin, and ruthenium. However, this list is not exhaustive and care is always to be taken to investigate potential interference effects.

Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung von Platin in Platin-Schmucklegierungen, vorzugsweise im Bereich eines Gehaltes wie in ISO 9202 festgelegt. Die Bestimmung erfolgt mittels induktiv gekoppelten Plasma optischem Emissions- Spektrometer (ICP-OES).
Dieses Verfahren ist anwendbar für Platin-Schmucklegierungen, die Silber, Indium, Iridium, Gallium, Kupfer, Kobalt, Nickel, Zinn und Ruthenium enthalten können. Allerdings ist diese Liste nicht vollständig und potentielle Interferenzeffekte müssen mit Vorsicht untersucht werden.
Diese Methode ist als empfohlenes Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Feingehalts in Legierungen bis zu 990 ‰, welche durch die ISO 9202 abgedeckt sind, angegeben.

L'ISO 11494:2014 décrit une méthode de dosage du platine dans les alliages de platine pour la joaillerie, bijouterie, de préférence dans la gamme de titre spécifiée dans l'ISO 9202, et ce par spectrométrie d'émission optique à plasma induit par haute fréquence (ICP-OES).
La présente méthode s'applique aux alliages de platine pour la joaillerie, bijouterie pouvant contenir de l'argent, de l'indium, de l'iridium, du gallium, du cuivre, du cobalt, du nickel, de l'étain et du ruthénium. Toutefois, cette liste n'est pas exhaustive et il faut toujours prendre soin de rechercher d'éventuels effets d'interférences.

Standard ISO 11494:2014 opisuje metodo za določanje platine v zlitinah za nakit iz platine, po možnosti v razponu finosti, ki je naveden v standardu ISO 9202, z optično emisijsko spektrometrijo z induktivno sklopljeno plazmo (ICP-OES).
Ta metoda se uporablja za zlitine za nakit iz platine, ki lahko vsebujejo srebro, indij, iridij, galij, baker, kobalt, nikelj, kositer in rutenij. Vendar ta seznam ni popoln, zato se vedno priporoča previdnost pri določanju možnih vplivov na metodo.

The text of ISO 11494:2014 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 174 “Jewellery” of the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO 11494:2016.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2017, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by April 2017.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent

d) addition of an alternative calibration solution in 8.2.2;
e) addition of an alternative sample solution in 8.3.2;
f) addition of an alternative route for calculation in 8.6.4;
g) International Standard editorially revised.

Introduction
The following definitions apply in understanding how to implement an ISO International Standard and

1 Scope
This International Standard describes a method for the determination of platinum in platinum jewellery
alloys, preferably within the range of fineness specified in ISO 9202, by means of inductively coupled
plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES).
This method applies to platinum jewellery alloys that might contain silver, indium, iridium, gallium,
copper, cobalt, nickel, tin, and ruthenium. However, this list is not exhaustive and care is always to be
taken to investigate potential interference effects.
This method is intended to be used as the recommended method for the determination of fineness in
alloys covered by ISO 9202 up to 990 ‰.
