This European Standard specifies requirements and describes test methods for pressure gauges and pressure switches. Pressure gauges are used e.g. for monitoring of pilot, control, alarm and storage containers of fire extinguishing systems filled with non-liquefied inert gases or pressurized halocarbon gases. Pressure switches are used e.g. for monitoring of pilot, control, alarm and storage containers of fire extinguishing systems filled with non-liquefied inert gases or pressurized halocarbon gases and remote indication of leakage.

EN 12094-10:2003 (E)74 Requirements4.1 Pressure gaugesNOTEThe range of a pressure gauge should be greater than the pressure developed in the container at 50 °C or themaximum pressure given by the manufacturer, but not higher than the next highest standard range of EN 837-1.4.1.1 GeneralThe component shall comply with the technical requirements of EN 837-1.4.1.2 Accuracy class and nominal sizeThe component shall have at least accuracy class 1,6 and at least nominal size 40 as given in EN 837-1.4.1.3 CorrosionThe component shall meet the same accuracy requirements of EN 837-1 after being subjected to the corrosiveatmosphere as described in 5.2.8 with the inlet sealed during conditioning.4.2 Pressure switches4.2.1 DesignThe switching accuracy of the component at the designated setting point shall not exceed ± 2,5% of the pressuredeveloped in the container at 50 °C or shall not exceed ± 2,5% of the maximum pressure expected at the place of usein the system.The component shall be specified by the manufacturer for a working pressure of at least the pressure developed inthe container at 50 °C.The manufacturer shall specify the switching capacity.The component shall incorporate self-resetting contacts.The component shall be designed to have at least class IP 54 of EN 60529.4.2.2 FunctionWhen tested in accordance with 5.2.4 the component accuracy shall be in accordance with 4.2.1 and the electricalconnection(s) shall function correctly.4.2.3 Internal pressureWhen tested in accordance with 5.2.5 the component shall not leak. The component shall operate satisfactorily whentested in accordance with 5.2.4 after being tested in accordance with 5.2.5.4.2.4 Operational reliabilityThere shall be no deterioration of performance when the component is tested as described in 5.2.6.SIST EN 12094-10:2003



EN 12094-10:2003 (E)84.2.5 TemperatureWhen tested in accordance with 5.2.7 at – 20 °C and + 50 °C the component accuracy at the designated setting pointshall not exceed ± 5% of either the pressure developed in the container at 50 °C or the maximum pressure expectedat the place of use in the system. The electrical connection(s) shall function correctly.4.2.6 CorrosionThe component shall operate satisfactorily when tested in accordance with 5.2.4 after being subjected to the corrosiveatmosphere as described in 5.2.8 with the inlet open.4.3 Documentation4.3.1The manufacturer shall prepare and maintain documentation.4.3.2The manufacturer shall prepare installation and user documentation, which shall be submitted to the testingauthority together with the sample(s). This documentation shall comprise at least the following:a) a general description of the component, including a list of its features and functions;b) a technical specification including:1) the information mentioned in 4.1 and 4.2, if applicable;2) sufficient information to permit an assessment of the compatibility with other components of the system (ifapplicable e.g. mechanical, electrical or software compatibility);c) installation instructions including mounting instructions;d) operating instructions;e) maintenance instructions;f) routine testing instruction, if appropriate.4.3.3The manufacturer shall prepare design documentation, which shall be submitted to the testing authoritytogether with the sample(s), except where the conditions of supply to the manufacturer make this impossible. Thisdocumentation shall include drawings, parts lists, block diagrams (if applicable), circuit diagrams (if applicable) anda functional description to such an extent that compliance with this standard may be checked and that a generalassessment of the design is possible.5 Test methods5.1 Pressure gauges5.1.1 Test conditions

EN 12094-10:2003 (E)95.2 Pressure switches5.2.1 Test conditionsThe components shall be assembled for test as specified in the technical documentation. The tests shall be carriedout at a temperature of (25 ± 10) °C, except when otherwise specified for a particular test.The tolerance for all test parameters is 5 %, unless otherwise stated.5.2.2 Test samples and order of testsFor the tests three samples are needed. Provision for venting shall be available.Vent the system of air and increase the pressure to (1,2 ± 0,05) times the specified working pressure. Maintain thispressure for a period of (5 ± 1) min. EN 12094-10:2003 (E)105.2.6 Operational reliabilityThis test relates to the requirements of 4.2.4.The test cycle shall be carried out 100 times as described in 5.2.4.5.2.7 TemperatureThis test relates to the requirements of 4.2.5.The test shall be carried out according to 5.2.4 at (--2020)
C and (++5002) °C after conditioning at the testtemperature for (2 ± 0,5) h.5.2.8 CorrosionA specimen shall be suspended freely in its normal installation attitude.The test set-up comprises a container 5 l in volume, made of heat-resistant glass and with a corrosion-resistantcover which is shaped to prevent condensate dripping onto the specimen. (If a container 10 l in volume is used, thequantities of chemicals given below shall be doubled.) The container is heated electrically and the side walls arecooled with water. A thermostat regulates the heating so as to maintain a temperature of approximately 45 °Cinside the container. During testing water is passed through a cooling coil wrapped around the container, it shallflow fast enough that its temperature at the discharge point is below 30 °C.The combination of heating and cooling is designed to ensure that vapours will condense on the surface of thespecimen. The sulphur dioxide atmosphere is generated in the 5-litre container with a solution of 20 g of sodiumthiosulphate (Na2S2O3 x 5H2O) in 500 cm3 of distilled water, to which 20 cm3 of dilute sulphuric acid is addeddaily. The dilute sulphuric acid comprises 128 cm3 of one molar sulphuric acid (H2SO4) dissolved in 1 l of distilledwater. The test specimen shall be removed from the container after 8 days; the container shall be cleaned. Thenthe procedure described above is repeated for a further period of 8 days.After a total of 16 days, the specimen is removed from the container and allowed to dry for seven days at atemperature of (20 ± 5) °C at maximum relative humidity of 70 %.6 MarkingPressure gauges shall be marked in accordance with EN 837-1:1996, 9.6.7.Pressure switches shall be marked with:a) name or trademark of the manufacturer or supplier;b) model designation (type);c) some mark(s) or code(s) (e.g. serial number or batch code), by which, at least, the date or batch and place ofmanufacture (if several places of manufacture) can be identified by the manufacturer; andd) set-point pressure.The markings shall be non-detachable, non-flammable, permanent and legible.Where the requirements of ZA.3 give the same information as above, the requirements of this clause 6 have beenmet.SIST EN 12094-10:2003
