Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Chemical composition and form of wrought products - Part 1: Numerical designation system

This document specifies a European designation system of wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys, based on an international designation system, and the procedure to obtain such international designation.
It is in accordance with the "Recommendation" dated December 15, 1970, as revised in March 2002, for an International Designation System for Wrought Aluminum and Wrought Aluminum Alloys issued by the Aluminum Association, Washington DC 20006, USA.
This standard applies to wrought products and to ingots intended to be wrought.

Dieses Dokument legt ein Europäisches Bezeichnungssystem für Aluminium und Aluminium-Knetlegierungen
auf der Grundlage eines internationalen Bezeichnungssystems fest sowie die Verfahrensweise zur Erlangung
dieser internationalen Bezeichnung.
Es entspricht der von der Aluminum Association, Washington D.C. 20006, USA, herausgegebenen ?Empfeh-
lungis vom 15. Dezember 1970, in der überarbeiteten Fassung von März 2002, für ein Internationales Be-
zeichnungssystem für Aluminium und Aluminium-Knetlegierungen.
Diese Norm gilt für Kneterzeugnisse und für das entsprechende Vormaterial (z. B. Walz- und Pressbarren
oder Knetvormaterial für Schmiedestücke).

Ce document décrit un systeme européen de désignation de l?aluminium et des alliages d?aluminium corroyés,
conforme au systeme de désignation international et a la procédure pour obtenir une telle désignation
internationale.
Elle est conforme a la « Recommandation » du 15 décembre 1970, révisée en mars 2002, pour un Systeme
international de désignation pour l´aluminium et les alliages d´aluminium Corroyés, émise par l´Aluminium
Association, Washington DC 20006, États-Unis.
Cette norme s´applique aux produits corroyés et aux billettes destinés a etre corroyés.

Foreword
This document (EN 573-1:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 132 “Aluminium and
aluminium alloys”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 2005, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the
latest by May 2005.
This document supersedes EN 573-1:1994. It contains only minor modifications which clarify its technical
content without modifying it.
This standard is part of set of five standards. The other standards deal with:
EN 573-2, Aluminium and aluminium alloys – Chemical composition and form of wrought products –
Part 2: Chemical symbol based designation system.
EN 573-3, Aluminium and aluminium alloys – Chemical composition and form of wrought products –
Part 3: Chemical composition.

Composition Limits for Wrought Aluminum and Wrought Aluminum Alloys".

countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic,
