La présente Norme internationale établit les principes généraux d'une méthode d'essai pour la détermination de la viscosité des polymères et résines (présentés sous forme liquide, émulsifiée ou dispersée) au moyen de viscosimètres à rotation à géométrie normalisée et avec un gradient défini de la vitesse de cisaillement. Les déterminations de viscosité effectuées conformément à la présente Norme internationale consistent à établir la corrélation entre la contrainte de cisaillement et le gradient de vitesse. Les résultats obtenus avec les différents appareils conformes à la présente norme sont comparables et s'appliquent aussi bien aux appareils à cisaillement contrôlé qu'aux appareils à contrainte contrôlée.
