This draft amendment is submitted to CEN members for unique acceptance procedure. It has been drawn up by the Technical Committee
CEN/TC 186.
This draft amendment A1, if approved, will modify the European Standard EN 746-1:1997. If this draft becomes an amendment, CEN
members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this amendment
into the relevant national standard without any alteration.
This draft amendment was established by CEN in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made
by translation under the responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the CEN Management Centre has the same
status as the official versions.
CEN members are the national standards bodies of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland,

Foreword
This document (EN 746-1:1997/prA1:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 186
“Industrial thermoprocessing - Safety”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This document is currently submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the
European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive(s).
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative Annexes ZA and ZB, which are integral parts of this
document.
The new safety requirements as stated in this document comply with the additional relevant Essential
Requirements of the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC complementing the existing Machinery Directive
98/37/EC.
Once this document is cited in the Official Journal of the European Community under the new Machinery
Directive 2006/42/EC and has been implemented as a national standard in at least one member state, it
confers a presumption of conformity with the new relevant Essential Requirements of that new Directive and
associated EFTA regulations.
This standard forms one part of a series safety standards covering Industrial Thermoprocessing Equipment.

An assessment of the foreseeable risks arising from the use of the equipment was carried out when this
standard was prepared.

In EN 60204-1, replace the bracket expression with "(IEC 60204-1:2005, modified)".
Delete "EN 292-1:1991, Safety of machinery — Basic concepts, general principles for design — Part 1: Basic
terminology, methodology" and add:
"EN ISO 12100-1:2003, Safety of machinery — Basic concepts, general principles for design — Part 1: Basic
terminology, methodology (ISO 12100-1:2003)".
Whole document: Replace "EN 292-1:1991" with "EN ISO 12100-1:2003".
Delete "EN 292-2:1991, Safety of machinery — Basic concepts, general principles for design — Part 2:
Technical principles and specifications" and add:
