EN 61558-2-7:2007 – 2 –
Foreword
The text of document 96/254/FDIS, future edition 2 of IEC 61558-2-7, prepared by IEC TC 96,
Transformers, reactors, power supply units and similar products for low voltage up to 1 100 V, was
submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 61558-2-7 on
2007-09-01 with inclusion of a common modification intended to align this European Standard with
EN 62115:2005.
This European Standard supersedes EN 61558-2-7:1997 + A11:2002.
The main changes consist of updating EN 61558-2-7:1997, in accordance with EN 61558-1:2005, and
adding power supplies to the scope.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2008-06-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2010-09-01
This Part 2-7 is intended to be used in conjunction with EN 61558-1:2005.
This Part 2-7 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in EN 61558-1, so as to convert that
publication into the European Standard: Particular requirements and tests for transformers and power
supplies for toys.
When a particular subclause of Part 1 is not mentioned in this Part 2-7, that subclause applies as far as is
reasonable. Where this standard states "addition", "modification" or "replacement", the relevant text of
Part 1 is to be adapted accordingly.
In this Part 2-7, the following print types are used:
– requirements proper: in roman type;
– test specifications: in italic type;
– explanatory matter: in smaller roman type.
In the text of this standard, the words in bold are defined in Clause 3.
Subclauses additional to those in Part 1 are numbered starting from 101; supplementary annexes are

all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC
Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
in the subject dealt with may Participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also Participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.

Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence
between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in
the latter.
5) IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any
equipment declared to be in conformity with an IEC Publication.

NOTE 1 – Attention is drawn to the fact that :
- Measures to protect the enclosure and the components inside the enclosure against external influences like
fungus, vermin and termites, solar-radiation, and icing should also be considered.

- The different conditions for transportation, storage and operation of the transformers and power supplies for toys
should also be considered.
-additional requirements in accordance with other appropriate standards and national rules may be applicable to
transformers and power supplies for toys intended for use in special environments such as tropical
environment.
NOTE 2 – Future technological development of transformers and power supplies may necessitate a need to
increase the upper limit of the frequencies, until than this standard may be used as a guidance document.

6 Ratings
Replacement:
6.1 The rated output voltage shall not exceed 24 V a.c for transformers and power supplies
for toys or 33 V ripple-free d.c. for power supplies for toys.
6.2 The rated output shall not exceed 200 VA.
6.3 The rated supply frequency shall not exceed 500 Hz.
6.4 Transformers for toys shall have only one rated supply voltage not exceeding 250 V a.c.
6.5 The rated output current shall not exceed 10 A.
Compliance with the requirements of 6.1 to 6.5 is checked by inspection of the marking.
7 Classification

7.1 Replacement:
According to their protection against electric shock:
- transformers for toys shall be of class II construction
7.2 Replacement:
According to short-circuit protection or protection against abnormal conditions:
– inherently short-circuit-proof transformers;
– non-inherently short-circuit-proof transformers;
– fail-safe transformers.
7.4 Replacement:
According to their mobility:
– portable transformers;
– stationary transformers.

9 Protection against electric shock
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:
9.1.2 Modification:
The standard test finger of figure 2 is replaced by the small test finger of figure 101.
9.1.2.1 Addition:
It shall not be possible to gain access to live parts of the input circuit, or to metal parts
separated from live parts by basic insulation only, even after the removal of covers, which
can be removed with the aid of a tool.
10 Change of input voltage setting
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:
Replacement:
Transformers and power supplies for toys shall have only one rated supply voltage or
one supply voltage range.
Compliance is checked by inspection.
11 Output voltage and output current under load
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:
11.1 Modification:
When the transformer or power supply for toys is connected to the rated supply voltage, at
the rated supply frequency and loaded with an impedance which would result in the rated
output at the rated output voltage and, for a.c. rated power factor, the output voltage shall
not differ from the rated value by more than 10 % for a.c. or 15 % for d.c.
This requirement is applicable to all output windings and their tapping.
12 No-load output voltage
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:
Addition:
12.101 The no-load output voltage shall not exceed 33 V a.c. for transformers and power
supplies for toys or 46 V ripple-free d.c. for power supplies for toys. This limitation applies
even when independent output windings, not intended for interconnecti
