This document (EN 3840:2007) has been prepared by the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of
Europe - Standardization (ASD-STAN).
After enquiries and votes carried out in accordance with the rules of this Association, this Standard has
received the approval of the National Associations and the Official Services of the member countries of ASD,
prior to its presentation to CEN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical

1 Scope
This standard defines the technical requirements for the qualification, manufacture, inspection and the delivery
of paints and varnishes for use in aerospace applications. It shall be applied in conjunction with the EN
material specification.

3 Terms and definitions

manufacturing schedule
a manufacturing schedule is a document prepared by the manufacturer in accordance with EN ISO 9001
and/or EN 9100, which defines the actual manufacturing procedure and inspection verification stages to be
followed in the production of a product/part to ensure that:
 the product/part is produced in a controlled and consistent manner;
 special properties and/or function in service are reproducible;
 the product/part fulfils the requirements of the technical specification and material specification.
4 Requirements
4.1 General requirements
4.1.1 Manufacturing schedule
The product shall be manufactured to fulfil the requirements of the relevant material specification and this
technical specification.
4.1.2 Traceability
The basic raw materials of all products shall be traceable to the raw material batches at all stages of
manufacture and delivery. Similarly, these raw materials batches shall be traceable to all stages of
manufacture and delivery.
4.1.3 Health, safety and environment
It is the responsibility of the supplier to establish satisfactory health and safety information to ensure
conformity with any European, National or local laws/regulations.
The manufacturer shall supply with the qualification sample or his first delivery whichever is applicable, and
any subsequent delivery where information may have changed, a material safety data sheet which shall
include all necessary safety related
